Kolkata Police arrested a total of 607 people over two days during Holi and Dol Jatra celebrations for alleged hooliganism, indecent behaviour, and roaming under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants. The arrests were made as part of strict security measures implemented across the city to prevent disturbances and ensure peaceful festivities.
According to police data, 330 individuals were arrested on Tuesday during Holi on charges related to misconduct and intoxicated roaming. On Wednesday, another 277 people were detained during Dol Jatra celebrations, taking the total number of arrests across the two days to 607.
To strengthen law and order during the festival period, police set up 398 pickets of different sizes across the city based on the sensitivity of various locations. Continuous monitoring was carried out through motorbike patrols and Police Control Room (PCR) vans deployed in several areas.
Authorities had issued strict instructions to remain vigilant during the celebrations, particularly in view of past incidents involving reckless or intoxicated driving on Dol day. The heightened surveillance and preventive measures were aimed at avoiding accidents and maintaining public safety across Kolkata.
